What is AI Video?

AI video refers to video content that utilizes artificial intelligence technologies for its creation, editing, or enhancement. These technologies automate various aspects of video production, such as editing, adding effects, generating synthetic human-like characters, or creating entire scenes from scratch. AI video tools are revolutionizing the media industry by making content creation more accessible, efficient, and capable of generating highly personalized or unique experiences.

Some of the established companies in this space include Pika Labs, Runway AI, and D-ID, which are already well-known in the industry. However, today, we will focus on the emerging players who, based on their advertised capabilities, have the potential to disrupt the market.

MorphStudio

Overview: Morph Studio has its text-to-video model and has just introduced an AI filmmaking platform. The eponymous tool takes the form of a storyboard, where users can create and edit shots by entering text prompts for different scenes and combining them into a cohesive narrative.

Why it is promising: MorphStudio, a company with about ten employees, has received $2.5 million in funding from Baidu Ventures. MorphStudio is partnering with Stability AI to create its product but plans to introduce other generative video models in the future. Users can choose between Morph's custom model and these other models. Morph calls the process of generating, editing, and cross-cutting a "workflow." Users can share their unique production workflow in Morph's creator community, where others can replicate and modify the templates by changing the AI prompts.

LTX Studio

Overview: Recently, Lightricks released a remarkable video demo for film enthusiasts. This platform integrates a variety of AI tools that support everything from generating script ideas, designing characters, creating video motion, editing timelines, and even editing images. With the help of this platform, users can easily change colors, backgrounds, and characters, set up lighting and colors, create conceptual stories, or evaluate different options for shooting a scene without investing much money.

Why it is promising: In 2021, Lightricks secured a huge Series D funding round of $130 million, which was led by Insight Partners. Lightricks is the company that developed well-known apps like Facetune and Videoleap. The studio offers a range of features that assist creators in producing an AI-powered short clip from the initial idea stage to visualizing how the storyline will unfold.

EMO

Overview: EMO differs from the two above tools as it's not designed for filmmaking but rather for creating expressive portrait videos using the Audio2Video Diffusion Model.

Why it is promising: EMO is an amazing technology that can transform a single static image into a video clip of singing or talking with real emotions and expressions. With the current development of AI, it's certain that digital idols will soon rise in popularity. The team behind EMO is backed by Alibaba Group, a giant e-commerce and technology company in China. I'm still in awe of the demo results and highly recommend checking them out for yourself.

Thatโ€™s a wrap! ๐ŸŒฏ

I understand that some people are worried that the increasing use of AI tools in the film and video industry will lead to job losses and being replaced by AI. However, in my opinion, films and videos rely heavily on content creation, which is something that AI cannot fully accomplish on its own. These tools are meant to aid humans in implementing their ideas and bringing their creativity to life. In this way, AI tools are incredibly exciting because they make it possible for even an average person without any particular skills, like myself, to turn their ideas into media creatives. As always, I believe that these tools will help people create content faster and more affordably, making the industry more accessible to the general public.
