AI democratization is making artificial intelligence tools and technologies more accessible and user-friendly, even for ordinary people with little technological expertise or resources, so more individuals can benefit from them. Let’s understand why this is important.

Problem Statement

The problem with today’s AI landscape is that the AI hype has attracted huge interest from many companies and individuals. Companies race to develop the best AI and better AI than their competitors, so they try to monopolize and close-source the technologies as much as possible. This is causing the current market to move toward an anti-democratic direction. AI tools and technologies are becoming too fragmented; everyone wants to carve out a slice of the pie for themselves.

This is making AI less accessible to ordinary users. I subscribed to ChatGPT today, and tomorrow, I already have to consider canceling the subscription and switching to Claude Opus. Then, when I need a specialized task, such as image generation, I have to look for another service like Midjourney or Leonardo AI. As for content writing, there's no point in discussing it; there are hundreds of thousands of different services to choose from. The examples continue: AI-powered PDF reader and AI-powered learning assistant.

But as an average or casual user, you can't maximize the value of all these AI tools simultaneously.

Most people only use 5-10% of their monthly subscription to any AI service. Yet, those few times warrant a full monthly subscription, which is highly wasteful.

Additionally, the cost of entry can become a barrier for people who might not have the monetary resources to try and use AI tools to advance in their lives compared to others who have the opportunities to take advantage of AI, further widening the societal gap.

Moreover, dozens of applicable open-source AI models are being overlooked (because the media do not hype them, and free tools are not sexy). Free and accessible AI tools are buried behind tons of freemium and paid AI services.

We need some solution to change this, but the question is how?

Supporting AI For All

Yes, this answer is lame, but spreading awareness and actively using and contributing to open-source AI developments is the only way to push for an equitable future for everyone to use and benefit from AI.

• Tokenizers: Hugging Face also developed the Tokenizers library, which provides fast and efficient tokenization for NLP tasks. Tokenization breaks down text into smaller units (tokens) that NLP models can process.

• Datasets: The company maintains an extensive collection of datasets for various NLP tasks, making it easier for researchers and developers to train and evaluate their models.
